The mourning

The empty ruins, lapsed again
Into Nature’s wide domain,
Sow themselves with seed and grain

For a moment, it seemed that dawn would never come. It’s that quiet, cold hour right before the first shades of pink pollute the darkness, making all shapes and shades morph and dance in front of our eyes. I see the ruins under this gloomy twilight… we lost so much.

All the vain treasures are empty victories, and all the adorned stories we boast about in dining halls after a few tankards of mead are nothing more than noise. Maybe we think that if we sing and laugh loudly enough, we won’t have to hear the voices of our fallen ones, or the wind howling sadly through the dead trees.
