This was the first song I ever heard by the Spanish band Jarabe de Palo, many years ago. I felt the need to record it, play it and replay it, find the album and own it. I can recall endless afternoons loudly and passionately singing along (poor neighbors) these simple, sweet songs, sometimes alone, sometimes with my brother (his favorite song was La Flaca).

Today, the lead singer has moved on to a different stage, after a long battle with cancer. Thank you, Pau. Thank you for all that youth filled with your music, for all those nights when your voice lulled me to sleep or kept me company while I studied. Farewell.

Hopeless life

I want to touch it… I don’t want to crush its fragility, so I use the hand that is still made of flesh. It’s still beautiful, but it fades a little every day. Perhaps it’s the sterility of this air, neon and noise, or perhaps it simply knows that it’s all alone, the last flower in a world in decay.

I died a queen, and they said I would have rather died the wife of another. I’m not sure what I would have rather died, or lived, or dreamt. I died before my bones were even fully grown, and all my dreams fell with the thump of the axe on my neck. My inspiration today is the tragedy of Catherine Howard, fifth wife of the infamous Henry VIII. Some say her terrified ghost still runs through Hampton Court, as she did the day of her arrest (the day after Halloween). Here she wears the Belladonna dress by Dreaming Thicket, one of the new “branches” of the store that was Anachron. You can still find it for a few more days at We ❤ RP.
