Oh, what a ride this was since that September evening back in 2011, my first year in Germany, when this guy I was dating recommended me to join Second life. My virtual début had an important advantage: a seasoned “insider” who didn’t want his girl looking like a noob, and his wonderful friend Ms. T, who was incredibly generous and patient, and took me shopping to all her favorite places, all of the goodness of her heart, because I was her buddy’s girl.
In all these years, I’ve been a zombie hunter, a medieval tavern wench, a jewelry model, and a hilarious array of goddesses, demons, mythological creatures, historical ladies, and more. And that guy who first guided me down this mesmerizing rabbit hole is now my partner, my lover, and my husband, in all my lives.
I haven’t kept many photos of my avatar from before 2014, but I always kept this one, taken when I was only 2 months old back in November 2011. I chose to recreate that one, one of the first looks I put together trying to mimic my RL overall look and style. I still own some of the stuff that I’m wearing in that first photo. I never had the heart to get rid of them, like the hoarder that I am, so I will include the credits!
Years later, just as it happened in RL, I became paler because my skin misses the tropical sun, and I lounge by a fireplace because I’m always kinda cold here… I also visibly gained some weight (blame all those delicious German pastries!), and I added my cute little wedding band, and strong nail polish, another hobby that I picked up here in Berlin.
After being so many different versions of me, so many different creatures and dreams, I came back to the me that reminds most of the real me… Thank you, Second Life, for all these years of adventure and entertainment. Thank you, my dear virtual friends, and the ones who also became real through hours of chat, shared laughter and tears. Thank you, my love, Zero Upshaw, for showing me this world and inviting me to live this fantasy with you.
